Many businesses have taken to blogging in an attempt to improve their online presence and consequently boost their sales. What a lot of them don’t understand though is that it’s not just about quantity and promotion, putting out post after post of subpar and mainly promotional check quality content. In order to really make your blog a success you need to create high quality content that your audience will engage with and share. To make your blog a success, make sure that you avoid the following Blogging Mistakes.
Choosing Quantity Over Product Quality Content
You don’t need to publish a blog post every day. It’s very difficult to put out an interesting piece of content related to your niche each and every day. If you can’t manage to do this, don’t resort to creating an average blog post every day, just to be able to publish something. Instead, focus on creating great blog posts and perhaps only post a few times or just once per week.
Writing Just for SEO
What is quality content SEO ? SEO is important for your business, but making improving your SEO the primary objective of your blog won’t get you the results you are after. Focussing just on SEO will make for boring and badly written content that nobody wants to read. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t include keywords into your posts. You definitely should. But only in places where it makes sense and don’t try to stuff in as many as you can. The best way to approach this is by writing a post for your audience first and then afterwards optimize your text for SEO.
Focusing on Number of Words
While it is true that Google has been valuing higher word count articles, that doesn’t mean you need to write an 800-word article when you can say everything you need to say about a topic in 300 words. Adding fluff to your blog posts will just turn off your audience.
Using Technical Jargon
Unless your blog is very specifically targeted at people who are very knowledgeable about your industry, you need to avoid using words that people won’t understand. Just because you use technical jargon at work all day doesn’t make it ok to use this in your blog posts. Content for the internet should be easy to read and understand so people don’t need to spend more than a few minutes to get through your blog posts.
Lacking Personality in Your Writing
There are probably hundreds or even thousands of blogs out there that talk about similar topics as yours. One thing that can make you stand out from those other blogs is by adding some personality to your quality content writing. People are more likely to engage with your blog if they feel like a real person with a unique perspective is writing the blog posts. Add some unique, personal insights to topics you write about, use some humor and develop your own voice that people will recognize and identify with.
If your blog is struggling to gain traction, make sure you aren’t making any of the above mistakes and if you are, try to make the necessary changes to improve your blog’s success.
